(Spoiler: it actually works.)
Summer’s around the corner. Your calendar is filling up with beach days, weekend trips, late nightsand spontaneous adventures.
Your workout routine? Might get a little less structured and that’s more than okay.
We’ve all heard it before: rest is part of the process.
But somehow, taking a break still feels a little risky, like all your progress might disappear if you skip a few sessions.
Here’s our take: don’t stress it.
Science says rest isn’t just allowed, it’s necessary.
When you train, you’re creating tiny tears in your muscles. It’s during rest that your body rebuilds those muscles stronger. Without recovery, there’s no real growth.
Mentally, breaks also do wonders: downtime improves focus, restores energy, and reduces chronic stress all key for staying motivated long-term (source: NSCA, Journal of Strength & Conditioning).
So if you’re swapping bootcamps for beaches and barbells for books this summer, good for you!
If you do feel like staying active, keep it light and joyful. Here’s what some of us at Jimme do while on holiday:
- Swim in the sea or hotel pool
- Long walks (bonus if it ends with gelato)
- Playing active games outdoors
- Morning stretches on the balcony
- Nourishing meals, mixed with all the summer treats
This season, let movement support your energy, not drain it.
Let rest feel like progress, because it is.
And most importantly: let joy lead the way.
We’ll be here when you’re ready to move again. Stronger, sunnier, and totally recharged.
